Esta es la versión definitiva y en inglés de mi disco. Unas semanas después de abrir mi MySpace, en febrero, un percusionista dublinense, interesado en formar una banda, me escribió diciéndome que mis temas le parecían musicalmente muy buenos, pero que las letras en castellano jugaban en su detrimento, y que el nombre "Ramiro El Gay" era demasiado "exótico" y desvinculado del concepto del proyecto. Me sugirió cambiarlo y traducir las letras al inglés. Al principio era reticente a ambas cosas, pero finalmente decidí cambiar el nombre, traducir las letras al inglés (respetando el contenido lírico original, dentro de lo posible), regrabarlas y, de paso, arreglar varias meteduras de pata... no me figuré de ciertos detalles hasta un mes y pico después de haber grabado el disco. Incluso algunos visitantes y conocidos me los hicieron ver; ¡gracias!.

"Collapsing Realities" significa "Realidedes Colapsantes" o "Realidades Colapsando". El nuevo nombre hace alusión a dos cosas: por un lado, al contenido lírico del disco, inspirado en una serie de personas que conocí a lo largo de los últimos seis o siete años, que han pasado por situaciones límite (una de ellas, el hermano de una ex, acabó quitándose la vida en 2008). Si bien "Atrocious Forms Of Happiness" no es un disco conceptual al uso, la temática lírica gira entorno a las vivencias de estos allegados, las cuales me afectaron en mayor o menor grado. Está todo cantado en primera persona para darle más cohesión a la obra. Por otro lado, el nuevo nombre hace alusión a la realidad que estamos viviendo: una potencial segunda Gran Depresión a la vuelta de la esquina, el peakoil, los recientes desastres naturales, etc..

Volviendo a esta nueva y definitiva versión del disco... la verdad es que en inglés suena mucho mejor. Ahora entiendo a todas esas bandas que cantan en inglés (casi me siento culpable por tacharlas de "gays"... pero mereció los lulz). Varios temas sufrieron alteraciones notables, sobre todo el primero, "Los Sábados Más Alegres De Mi Vida" (ahora "The Happiest Saturdays Of My Life"), ha cobrado más vida gracias a ciertas resoluciones melódicas, y el añadido de efectos vocales, y el último, "Formas Atroces De Felicidad" (ahora "Atrocious Forms Of Happiness") fue un tema que destruí por una toma vocal terrible, y por tocar un acorde de teclado equivocado. Es el más beneficiado del disco, creo. Por otro lado, mi performance vocal ha mejorado un poco, aunque mi voz sigue siendo muy limitada... he recibido algunas críticas al respecto, pero no me preocupa demasiado; Ian Curtis y Win Butler, por ejemplo, son dos vocalistas apenas correctos, pero tanto Joy Division como The Arcade Fire son dos excelentes bandas, a mi juicio. Considero que lo importante es transmitir y que las melodías vocales sean buenas; yo transmito, y creo que mis melodías vocales son buenas.

En fin, ahí lo dejo. Me gustaría agradeceros a todos los que opinásteis sobre el disco, y que os follen a todos los que me comieron el culo cada vez que actualizaba, pero que ni siquiera se molestaron en escuchar mi debut (Manué, Lord Charles H, Rochacrimson, etc.), a todos los que de aquí se bajan hasta los pantalones pero tampoco lo escucharon, y a los trolls inimaginativos (¿no se os ocurre nada mejor que "hijo de puta", "maricón", "facha", etc.? Ya echo de menos las amenazas, aquí y en mi Facebook...).

Bueno, los que no le hayáis dado una oportunidad a este disco, ahora podéis escucharlo como Dios manda. Aún hay cosas que me gustaría cambiar (tendría que regrabar las voces del primer tema, y un par de guitarras) pero me largo a Dublín en unos días y no quiero llegar con cuatro duros. Ojalá os guste, y sino, gracias por escuchar de todas formas. Por favor, no distribuyáis la versión en castellano, es inferior; distribuíd ésta en su lugar. Gracias.

This is the definitive, english version of my album. A few weeks after creating my MySpace account, a percussionist from southern Dublin, who was interested in forming a band, dropped me a message telling me that he had found my songs very good musically, but that they suffered from the spanish lyrics, and that the "Ramiro El Gay" motto played in detriment of the project, being it too "exotic" and divorced from the overall concept of the project. He suggested me to change it and to translate the lyrics to english. I was reluctant at first, but I finally decided to change the project's name, translate the lyrics (respecting the original lyrical content as much as possible), re-record the vocals and, by the way, fix quite a few mistakes that I hadn't figured out during the making of the album... it took like one month and a half, after recording the album, for me to find out. Some reviews helped me in this aspect; thank you!.

The new name, "Collapsing Realities", makes an allusion to a couple of things: on one hand, the lyrical content of the album, which was inspired by a number of people I came across in the last six or seven years, who've been through limit situations in their lives (one of them, the brother of an ex girlfriend, eventually comitted suicide in 2008). Even though "Atrocious Forms Of Happiness" is not a concept album per se, the lyrical thematic revolves around experiences of these closest, which affected me to varying degrees. Everything is sung in first person, to give more cohesion to the work. On the other hand, the new name makes another allusion to the current reality we are living in: a potential second Great Depression around the corner, peakoil, the recent natural disasters, etc..

Back to this new and definitive version of the album... the truth is, it sounds so much better in english. Now I understand all those non-anglosaxon bands that sing in english; I almost feel guilty for calling them faggots (but, hey, it was bloody worth the lulz). Many songs were notably altered: the first one, "The Happiest Saturdays Of My Life" ("Los Sábados Más Felices De Mi Vida" in the spanish version), sounds brighter thanks to some melodic resolutions, and the adding of some effects. "Atrocious Forms Of Happiness" ("Formas Atroces De Felicidad" in the spanish version) was a song that I completely fucked up due to a terrible vocal take, except for the beginning, and playing the wrong keyboard chord. It's the one that has been better off the most, I think. On the other hand, my vocal performance has improved a bit, but my voice is still very limited... I received some criticism about it, but it doesn't disturb me that much; Ian Curtis and Win Butler, for example, are two barely ok vocalists, but both Joy Division and The Arcade Fire are great bands for me. Transmitting and having good vocal melodies is what really matters, in my opinion; I do transmit and I think that my vocals melodies are good.

Well, that's it. I'd like to thank everyone who gave their opinion on the album, and a big fuck you to all those who brown nosed me everytime I updated this place, but never bothered to listen to my debut (Manué, Lord Charles H, Rochacrimson, etc.), uninventive trolls (can't you come up with something more original than "bastard" or "homophobe"?), and Carl (I bet you're a frustrated musician).

Rock Progresivo Español se toma un descanso / Spanish Progressive Rock takes a break

Como podréis ver, he subido una cantidad ingente de material para vuestro disfrute (y el de Teddy Bautista). Sucede que, en breve, me mudo a Dublín, Irlanda, y he de encontrar sitio donde vivir, trabajo, armar otra banda (mirad el post de arriba), etc.. No sé cuánto tardaré en reconectarme; igual pillo otra conexión en dos o tres semanas, o en un mes... y no quiero que pase lo que pasó en mayo del año pasado, que me tiré como un mes y medio sin actualizar. Así que me he pegado el curro de subir los siete discos de esta semana (como cada domingo), más otros 28, que corresponden a las actualizaciones de todo un mes... en total, 35. ¿Qué bien que os trato, eh? No os quejaréis.

Bueno, espero veros pronto... ¡deseadme suerte en Irlanda! ¡Saludos!

As you might have noticed, I've posted a huge amount of stuff for your enjoyment. The reason why I did this is that I'm moving to Dublin, Ireland, soon, and I'll have to find a place to live, a job, start a new band (see the post above) etc.. I don't know when will I be able to get another internet connection; it could be in a couple of weeks, three, or one month... and I don't want to keep this dormant for months, as it happened in may of last year, when I didn't update this for like a month and a half. So I've uploaded the mandatory seven albums of the week, like I do every sunday, plus 28 more, which is worth a month of updates... that is, 35 in total. You can't complain, huh?

Cuatro Vientos - Laberinto Interior (VINILO) / (VINYL) (FLAC + MP3 320 kbps)

El caso de esta oscura banda de rock sinfónico es curioso: según comenta el libro que acompaña a este LP, estuvieron en activo entre agosto de 1976 y principios de 1978, y la edad de sus miembros estaba comprendida entre los 16 y los 23 años. En 1977 grabaron una maqueta (demo) en su sala de ensayo, que cayó en el olvido hasta 1993, año en que la tienda/sello Discos Melocotón decide recuperar una de las copias en cassette de la misma. En el libro pone: "el presente disco, está reproducido de cintas superusadas, que fueron grabadas en un cassette de coche para uso de los nuevos componentes del grupo, ya que sólo Pablo y Teddy fueron estables. La grabación (¿original o copia?) ha estado olvidada por años, por lo que a veces, la música casi desaparece y ha sido muy difícil recuperar un sonido "semi" estable."

El LP tuvo una tirada única y limitada de 500 copias en vinilo. La mía (que ripeé y escaneé para la ocasión) es la número 91. Sobra decir que no llegaron a editar ningún LP de estudio, ni existen más maquetas suyas.

Ripeado de vinilo, nunca editado en CD. Disponible en formato FLAC (copia clónica, sin pérdida, del LP original) y MP3 a 320 kbps.

The case of this obscure sympho prog band is quite strange: according to the booklet that comes with this LP, they were active between august of 1976 and early 1978, and the age of its members ranked among 16 and 23 years old. In 1977 they made a demo at their rehearsal room, which fell into oblivion until 1993, when the Madrid based shop/label Discos Melocotón decided to retrieve one of the tape copies of it. The book says that "the present album, has been reproduced from super worn out tapes that were copied in a car stereo for the use of the new members of the band, since only Pablo and Teddy were stable in the line-up. The recording (original or copy?) has been forgotten for years, therefore sometimes the music almost disappears, and it's been very hard to get an "almost" stable sound."

The LP was released on a single limited press of 500 copies on vinyl. Mine (the one I ripped and scanned for the occasion) is the number 91. No need to say that the band never released a proper studio album, or any more demos.

Vinyl rip, never issued on CD. Available in FLAC format as well as MP3 at 320 kbps.

Flamenco - (Sin nombre) (VINILO) / (Untitled) (VINYL)

Flamenco son uno de los tantos eslabones perdidos del rock andaluz. Para los aficionados, este género nace con Smash y se vuelve popular con Triana. Personalmente, discrepo, y si bien deben haber más ejemplos que los que cito a continuación, me atrevo a decir que la evolución iría más o menos así:

1964: Los Brincos dan el pistoletazo de salida con el tema "Flamenco", incluido en su LP debut de 1964. Los miembros de la banda, al no ser andaluces, no practicaron un flamenco al uso en esta canción. Flamenco beat, flamenco rock, flamenco pop...

1966: Sabicas rompe moldes con su "Rock Encounter", grabado en Estados Unidos junto a Joe Beck. Flamenco rock, flamenco jazz, flamenco psicodélico, flamenco instrumental.

1967: los estadounidenses Love mezclan el pop anglosajón con el flamenco en su conocido single "Alone Again Or", del aclamado "Forever Changes". Flamenco anglizado pop.

1968: otros estadounidenses, The Doors, hacen lo suyo con el tema "Spanish Caravan". Flamenco anglizado psicodélico.

1971: Smash editan el simple "El Garrotín", con letras mayoritariamente en inglés y sabor claramente anglosajón. Flamenco anglizado psicodélico. Este mismo año, Sabicas edita otro LP rompedor, "The Soul Of Flamenco And The Essence Of Rock". Flamenco rock instrumental, psicodélico y progresivo.

1972: Galaxia, una banda pre-Flamenco, edita sus dos simples: "El Parne/La Petenera" y "La Noticia/Caminando". Proto rock andaluz psicodélico.

1973: Carmen debuta con "Fandangos In Space". Más cerca del concepto de rock andaluz, si no fuera por las letras en inglés y el sabor anglosajón que impregna toda su obra.

1973: Flamenco saca este, su único disco. Si se hubieran decantado por un rock progresivo más elaborado, con mayor sinfonismo (como Carmen), y un pelín menos cañí, podríamos estar hablando de los verdaderos fundadores del rock andaluz.

1975: Triana debuta con "El Patio".

Así enmarcaría, pues, a Flamenco en la evolución del rock andaluz. Sobra decir que su única referencia ni le hizo cosquillas a las listas de éxitos, y que han permanecido en el olvido durante más de tres décadas (con esa portada... spanish bizarro a saco). No obstante, hace unos años, gracias a internet, fueron redescubiertos por melómanos empedernidos (entre los que me incluyo) y, finalmente, el año pasado su LP fue reeditado en vinilo, para mi sorpresa.

Otro aspecto digno de mención, es que en este grupo militaron ex-miembros de Los Soñadores (una de las primeras bandas de Tele Palacios, percusionista de Triana) y Galaxia, una banda proto-progresiva que apenas llegó a grabar un par de simples (leer más arriba).

A propósito, este rip no es el que se puede descargar del blog Los Sonidos De Mi Mente, sino uno que me pasaron hace años, y que suena muchísimo mejor que el del mencionado blog.

Este post va para Manué, que seguro que le mola, y para Pitraco, que es un perro que nunca comenta pero es enrollado.

Flamenco is one of the missing links of andalusian rock. For any beginner, this sub-genre was born with Smash and became popular with Triana. I have to say that, personally, I disagree, and, even if there might be more links than the ones that I put forward, the evolution of andalusian rock goes a bit like this:

1964: Los Brincos are the first to mix rock with faux-flamingo with the song "Flamenco", featured on the band's debut LP from 1964. Since the members of the band were notanalusian, they really didn't play a real flamingo (note: contrary to popular belief, flamingo is not terribly popular beyond southern Spain. In fact, most people from other places of Spain neither like nor can sing flamingo... it is is a very special thing). Faux-flamingo beat, flamingo rock, flamingo pop...

1966: Sabicas breaks new ground with "Rock Encounter", an album recorded in the United States with Joe Beck. Flamingo rock, flamingo jazz, Psych flamingo, instrumental flamingo.

1967: american psychedelic legends Love mix anglosaxon pop with flamingo on their famous "Alone Again Or" single, the opener of the classic "Forever Changes" LP. Anglicized flamingo pop.

1968: another classic american act, The Doors, do their thing with the song "Spanish Caravan", featured on their terrific "Waiting For The Sun" album. Psychedelic anglicized flamingo.

1971: Smash release the "El Garrotín" single, with lyrics mostly in english and with a clearly anglosaxon flavour to it. Psychedelic anglicized flamingo. That same year, Sabicas makes another groundbreaking LP, "The Soul Of Flamenco And The Essence Of Rock". Instrumental flamingo rock, psych and prog.

1972: Galaxia, a pre-Flamenco band, release their two singles: "El Parne/La Petenera" and "La Noticia/Caminando". Psychedelic proto andalusian rock.

1973: Carmen's debut album, "Fandangos In Space", comes out. Closer to the concept of andalusian rock, if it wasn't for the lyrics in english, and the overall anglosaxon flavour that impregnates all their output.

1973: Flamenco release this, their only LP. If they had chosen to follow the same path -instrumentally, at least- as Carmen -that is, a more intricate kind of prog, with more symphonism-, and were a little less tacky, we could be speaking of the true birth of andalusian rock.

1975: Triana release "El Patio".

So that's how I'd frame Flamenco in the evolution of andalusian rock. No need to say that their only album was a complete commercial flop, and it's been forgotten and ignored for more than three decades (with a cover like that... full spanish bizarro style). Nevertheless, a few years ago and thanks to internet, the band was rediscovered by some music lovers (among whom I include myself) and, finally, their LP was reissued on vinyl, much to my surprise.

Another aspect worth mentioning is that ex-members of Los Soñadores (one of the first bands where Tele Palacios, Triana's percussionist, played in) and Galaxia (a proto-prog act that just released of couple of singles - read above) played in Flamenco.

By the way, the rip I'm offering is not the same as the one found on the Los Sonidos De Mi Mente blog, but one I got through a guy years ago. It sounds much better than that one.

Orquesta De Las Nubes - Manual Del Usuario (VINILO) / (VINYL)

Oscura banda de rock andaluz formada en 1981. No fue hasta una década después que logran publicar éste, su primer LP, que no llegó a ser editado en CD. Algún tiempo después se disuelven, para regresar a los escenarios en 2003. En 2005 editaron un segundo -y también raro- disco, "Sueño Zíngaro" (como el segundo tema del LP que ocupa este post).

Obscure andalusian rock band formed in 1981. It wasn't until a decade later that the group managed to release this, their first LP, which has never been issued on CD. They disbanded some time later, and reformed in 2003. In 2005 they released a second -and also rare- album, "Sueño Zíngaro" (same title as the second track of this LP).

Este "disco" trae miga. En 1982, años después de la disolución de este clásico del proto prog catalán, salió a la venta un limitadísimo EP de doce pulgadas bajo el nombre "Funciona...". Ver primera foto, más arriba. Este EP se componía de dos largos temas: "I Can't Quit You Baby" (casi doce minutos) en la cara A, e "Improvisando Con Genio" (casi quince) en la cara B. Por supuesto, la edición original de este vinilo se cotiza por cantidades obscenas (recuerdo haber visto un ejemplar en la calle Tallers de Barcelona por bastante pasta).

Eso por un lado. En 2004, el sello/tienda barcelonés Wah Wah recupera, si no me equivoco, todas las grabaciones de Máquina! (oficiales e inéditas), y las reedita en vinilo exclusivamente. Los plásticos en cuestión fueron: una reedición sin extras de "Why?", otra de "En Directo" con el mencionado EP del '82 como bonus, y un doble recopilatorio de simples, caras B y rarezas bajo el nombre "...Funciona" (con los puntos suspensivos a la izquierda, en vez de a la derecha, a diferencia del EP del '82... ¿alguien me sigue?). Que porqué decidieron liar al personal usando ese mismo nombre, no lo sé; en cualquier caso, lo que nos ocupa es este doble recopilatorio. Ahí voy con el listado de temas:

This "album" is a bit of a mess. In 1982, years after the band's breakup, an extremely limited twelve inch EP entitled "Funciona..." saw the light of day. See the first picture above. It consists in two lengthy tracks: "I Can't Quit You Baby" (almost twelve minutes long) on the A side, and "Improvisando Con Genio" (almost fifteen) on the B side. Of course, the original issue of this item goes for ridiculous amounts of money (I remember seeing a copy of it in the Tallers street in Barcelona for a lot of money).

On the other hand, in 2004 the Barcelona based label/shop Wah Wah retrieved, if I'm not wrong, all the recordings by Máquina! (both official and unreleased), and re-released them on vinyl exclusively. The items in question are: a reissue of "Why?" without extras, a reissue of "En Directo" along with the forementioned '82 EP as bonus, and a double compilation of singles, B sides and rarities entitled "...Funciona" (notice the suspension points on the left, instead of the right, unlike the '82 EP... does anybody get what I'm saying?). The reason why Wah Wah decided to confuse everybody using the same title as the old posthumous EP is beyond me, but, in any case, this double compilation is what we're talking about. The track list is as follows:

Reedición remezclada y remasterizada con dos temas extra, que hacen unos doce minutos. La primera ya ha sido posteada, pero tiene mucho peor sonido y sólo está disponible en MP3 a 192 kbps. La que ofrezco ahora está ripeada en formato APE (copia clónica, sin pérdida, del CD original) y MP3 a 320 kbps.

Duo formado por Jordi Batiste (artista de culto que militó en los míticos Máquina!, Grup De Folk y otros) e Ia Clúa (ex-miembro de la oscurísima banda proto progresiva catalana Estratagema). Su discografía se compone de dos discos de estudio (amén de un par en vivo con muchas canciones inéditas), aunque es el primero de ellos el mejor valorado: se trata de una ecléctica obra de culto, muy valorada incluso por melómanos extranjeros. El segundo, "Chichonera's Cat", adolece tanto de elementos progresivos como de ese halo de misticismo que hace de "Un Gran Día" un trabajo tan recordado.

Remastered and remixed reissue with two bonus tracks that make almost twelve minutes. The first edition has already been posted before, but it has a much poorer sound and is only available as MP3's at 192 kbps. The one I'm offering this time has been ripped in APE format, as well as MP3 at 320 kbps.

Duo formed by Jordi Batiste (cult artist who played in the legendary catalan psych/proto prog band Máquina! and Grup De Folk, among others) and Ia Clúa (ex-member of the mega obscure catalan proto prog band Estratagema). Their discography consists in two studio LP's (plus a couple of live ones), albeit only the first of them is the most memorable of the two: it is an eclectic cult album, highly praised even by foreign music lovers. The second one, "Chichonera's Cat", lacks both the progressive elements as well as that mystic aura that makes "Un Gran Día" a cult work.

Este disco ya ha sido posteado, aunque se trataba de un rip de 160 kbps. En esta ocasión se ofrece una copia clónica en formato FLAC, y otra en MP3 a 320 kbps. Además, a diferencia del rip anterior, el que ofrezco en esta oportunidad proviene de vinilo, no de la pobrísima edición (tanto a nivel de sonido como de presentación) en CD. Este rip de LP suena mucho mejor.

Tras la disolución del grupo de culto Solera/C.R.A.G., José María Guzmán pasó a formar parte de Módulos, con quienes permaneció un año. Poco después de su deserción, publicó éste, su LP solista debut, extremandamente influenciado por el rock sinfónico de la época. Dos años después formó la banda pop Cadillac, con quienes editó cinco discos.

After the breakup of the cult band Solera/C.R.A.G., José María Guzmán joined Madrid sympho prog legends Módulos, with whom he stayed for a year. Shortly after leaving, he released this, his debut solo LP, an effort extremely influenced by the symphonic prog of the era. Two years later he formed Cadillac, a pop band that released five albums.

Reedición remasterizada de 2006 a cargo del sello K Industria. La anterior, de 1992, vio la luz a través de PDI-Edigsa. La misma ya fue posteada aquí, pero lo que se ofrece en este post es la reedición remasterizada, en formato FLAC (copia clónica, sin pérdida, del CD original) y MP3 a 320 kbps.

"Dioptria" es una de las piedras angulares del rock catalán, o en catalán; probablemente se trate del primer disco con entidad que se haya hecho en este idioma. Asimismo, es un clásico atemporal del rock español, y se le considera el mejor disco de Pau Riba. Se ha hablado ad nauseam sobre esta obra, así que poco más puedo añadir. Esto es lo que el propio artista tiene que decir:

"Dioptria -Un disco doble servido en dos fases– marca el comienzo de mi carrera en solitario inmediatamente después de haberse disuelto el Grup de Folk. También es, creo, el primer disco de rock hecho en catalán y en Cataluña. Por lo que respecta a los contenidos, es una crítica feroz al espíritu pequeño burgués y a la familia cristiano-progresista entendida como la célula básica de la sociedad. “Dioptria I” es crítico contra la mujer y el II que va contra el hombre, aunque no tanto, probablemente porque yo lo soy, es más folky. En 1978 Edigsa reeditará en un Lp doble “Dioptria I y II” revisados. En 1992 también es reeditado pero en disco compacto (PDI)."

El cinco de septiembre de 2006 (el mismo año que el sello K Industria reeditó este disco) se llevó a cabo un homenaje a Pau Riba y su magnum opus, bajo el mote "Dioptria V 2.1", en el Auditori de Barcelona (con las entradas agotadas con antelación), que contó con la presencia de algunas de las figuras más emblemáticas de la música catalana: Sisa, Jordi Sabatés (ex-miembro de OM, la banda que acompañó a Riba en este disco, ex-Jordi Sabatés I Toti Soler, ex-Jarka, y varios más) y Llibert Fortuny, y otros artistas menos conocidos, como Oriol Tramvia y Marc Parrot. Al evento asistieron, además, el francés Pascal Comelade, veteranos de la época de "Dioptria", y hasta consejeros de la Generalidad catalana. "Dioptria" is one of the cornerstones of catalan rock, or the catalan-sung rock: it is, quite probably, the first substantial album made in this language. Also, it is a timeless classic of spanish rock, and it is almost unanimously regarded as Riba's best work. A lot has been said about it, so there's little I can contribute. Anyway, this is what the artist has to say (translated as literally as possible by myself):

"Dioptria -a double album served in two phases- marks the start of my solo career, immediately after the breakup of Grup de Folk. It is, also, I think, the first rock album made in catalan and in Catalonia. Regarding its content, it is a ferocious criticism at the little burgeois spirit and the christian-progressive family, understood as the basic cell of the society. “Dioptria I” is critical towards the woman, while the second volume goes against the man, but not so much, probably because I am one, it's more folky. In 1978 Edigsa revisited and reissued Dioptria I and II on a double LP. It was also reissued in 1992, but in compact disc (PDI)."

On September 5th, 2006 (the same year that the K Industria label reissued this album), an event took place at the Auditori of Barcelona to pay tribute to Pau Riba and his magnum opus, under the "Dioptria V 2.1" motto. The tickets were sold out before the event took place; some of the most emblematic figures of the catalan music scene were present that night: Sisa, Jordi Sabatés (ex-member of OM, Riba's backing band during the recording of this album, ex-Jordi Sabatés I Toti Soler, ex-Jarka, and many others) and Llibert Fortuny, plus some lesser known artists, such as Oriol Tramvia and Marc Parrot. Some of the others present that night were french artist Pascal Comelade, a few veterans from the "Dioptria" days, and even some councilors of the catalan government . Oh, and Pau himself, who looked like he attended the event kinda obliged.

Si bien Sisa nunca hizo rock progresivo en el estricto sentido de la palabra, es una figura indispensable de la música popular catalana de los últimos cuarenta años. Militó en los míticos Música Dispersa, es amigo de Pau Riba, e hizo sus pinitos en diferentes bandas progresivas catalanas a lo largo de los años.

Entre 1975 y 1977, Sisa editó una trilogía de discos generalmente considerados lo mejor de su carrera: "Qualsevol Nit Pot Sortir El Sol" (1975), este "Galeta Galàctica" (1976) y el doble y ambicioso "La Catedral" (1977). Este último en concreto, es el más experimental de los tres, con varias canciones cuyo minutaje ronda los nueve minutos.

Even though Sisa never did progressive rock strictly speaking, he's a household name of the catalan music scene of the last forty years. He played in the legendary, unlabelable band Música Dispersa, he's friends with Pau Riba, and collaborated with different catalan progressive bands throughout his career.

Between 1975 and 1977, Sisa released a trilogy of albums that is generally regarded as the best of his output: "Qualsevol Nit Pot Sortir El Sol" (1975), this one (1976) and the ambitious double LP "La Catedral" (1977). The latter is the most experimental of them all, with many songs with a length of around nine minutes.

Rarísimo single que, junto al LP "¡Salud!", completa la discografía solista de Julio Matito. Bueno, por aquí se ha comentado que existe una cinta llamada "La Voz De Nuestras Manos", grabada por el ex-Smash para el entonces sindicato UGT, pero no sé si alguien la tiene, o la ha visto. Un visitante de este blog ha dicho que sí.

Volviendo al single, el mismo se compone de dos temas de alrededor de tres minutos cada uno. Nunca ha sido editado en CD, así que es un rip de vinilo, que debo agradecer a José Antonio... ¡gracias!

Disponible en formato FLAC (copia clónica, sin pérdida, del 7" original) y MP3 a 320 kbps.

Mega rare 7" single that, along with the "¡Salud!" LP, completes Julio Matito's discography. Well, the existence of a tape called "La Voz De Nuestras Manos", recorded by this ex-Smash member for the then-UGT labour union, has been discussed here, but I don't know if someone has it, or has even seen it. A visitor said he does.

Back to the single, it consists in two tracks with an aerage lenght of three minutes. It's never been issued on CD, so it's a vinyl rip, which I must thank José Antonio for.

Este disco ya ha sido posteado, aunque se trataba de un rip de 160 kbps. En esta ocasión se ofrece una copia clónica en formato FLAC, y otra en MP3 a 320 kbps.

"Licors" es, probablemente, el disco más progresivo de Pau Riba, y uno de sus más recordados (aunque bien lejos del monumental clásico "Dioptria"). Esta reedición remasterizada de 1996 es, de todas las ediciones en CD que existen, la que mejor sonido tiene, incluso mejor que la re-remasterizada de 2003, la cual adolece que bastante compresión.

Según el propio artista:

"Movieplay me invita a dar un concierto en Madrid que se suspenderá. Sin dinero para volver a casa, la editora nos propone hacer –improvisar– un nuevo disco. Sin embargo cuando tan sólo están hechas las bases, la discográfica va a cerrar el grifo y el disco se quedará a medias y nosotros, castrados. Finalmente, al cabo de un año, surgió la posibilidad de acabarlo con Daevid Allen (de Soft Machine, Gong, etc) en su Banabamoon Observatory de Deia Mallorca, con un Revox de 4 pistas y mucha imaginación. Aquí, en sintonía con él, vamos a poder aplicar a fondo la técnica de collage ya ensayada en el “Dipotria I”, y por primera vez voy a entrar en lo que posteriormente he sabido que era un estudio electrodoméstico. También en esta ocasión, aunque el disco seguía siendo de Movieplay, voy a comenzar a familiarizarme con las ideas y técnicas de la autoproducción y autoedición. Fonomusic reeditará Licors en disco compacto en el año 1996. Hay también dos reediciones especiales en Cd posteriores: una edición especial remasterizada (Time-Warner/Dro), y una reedición de 2Cds en 1 con “2003 Electròccid àccid alquimistic xoc/Licors”, con las portadas superpuestas (CD, Time-Warner/Dro)."

"Licors" is, quite probably, Pau Riba's most progressive effort, and one of his most popular albums (albeit far from the monster classic "Dioptria"). Out of the many existing CD editions of this album, this 1996 remastered reissue is the one with the best sound, even better than the 2003 re-remastered re-rerelease, which suffers from quite a lot of compression.

According to the artist:

"Movieplay* invited me to play a gig in Madrid, which was eventually cancelled. With no money left to return home, the label offered us to make -to improvise, actually- a new album. Anyway, when we had just cut the basic tracks, they denied us any more funds and the album remained half finished, and we, castrated. Finally, about a year later, we got the chance of finishing it with Daevid Allen (Soft Machine, Gong, etc) in his Bananamoon Observatory of Deia Mallorca, with lots of imagination and a 4 track Revox. Here, in tune with him, we could use the collage technique that was had already rehearsed in “Dipotria I”, and for the first time I dug in what I'd later know was an electrical appliance studio. Also, in this opportunity, even though the album still belonged to Movieplay, I became familiarized with the ideas and techniques of self-production and self-releasing. Fonomusic reissued Licors on compact disc in 1996. The were also two subsequential special reissues on CD: a special remastered edition (Time-Warner/Dro), and a two-on-one reissue from 2003, with "2003 Electròccid àccid alquimistic xoc/Licors”, with the covers of both albums superimposed (CD, Time-Warner/Dro)."

Conexión fue un grupo creado por el famoso director de orquesta Luis Cobos. A lo largo de su carrera editaron varios singles y un LP bastante progresivo, "Harmony", cuya segunda cara era ocupada por una suite, mayoritariamente instrumental, de algo más de quince minutos. Este LP ya ha sido posteado en FLAC y MP3 a 320 kbps.

"Todas Sus Grabaciones En Sonoplay Y Movieplay (1969-74)" es, como su nombre indica, un recopilatorio (doble) que recoge absolutamente todas las grabaciones oficiales del grupo. Lamentablemente, de todos estos registros, sólo "Harmony" puede ser categorizado como rock progresivo. El material restante (los simples) consiste en un sobrio y bien ejecutado soul con sección de vientos y hammond. Brown, y en Alcatraz (la banda formada por los ex-miembros de los Canarios una vez Teddy Bautista decidió cambiar el rumbo musical del grupo y despedirlos) habían al menos tres miembros de color.

Conexión was a band formed by the famous conductor Luis Cobos. Their discography consists in a handful of singles and a pretty progressive LP, "Harmony", whose second side featured a mostly instrumental suite that clocked at a little more than fifteen minutes. This LP has already been posted in FLAC and MP3 at 320 kbps.

"Todas Sus Grabaciones En Sonoplay Y Movieplay (1969-74)" ('All Their Recordings On Sonoplay And Movieplay (1969-74)') is, as its title suggests, a (double) compilation that features absolutely all the official recordings by this band. Unfortunately, out of all these recordings, only "Harmony" falls into the prog category. The remaining stuff (the singles) consists in a sober and well executed soul with wind section and hammond. In the late sixties and early seventies, soul music very trendy in Spain, and having a black member in your band was the coolest thing of the kingdom: Conexión had a Mr. Danny McKanily, Evolution (pioneers of the soulish spanish proto prog scene) had jamaican keyboardist T.J. Brown, and Alcatraz (the band formed by ex-members of Canarios once Teddy Bautista decided to change the band's musical direction and fire them all) had at least three coloured members.

Este disco ya ha sido posteado, aunque se trataba de un rip de 160 kbps. En esta ocasión se ofrece una copia clónica en formato FLAC, y otra en MP3 a 320 kbps. (Me pregunto si habrá algún freak que se quiera bajar esto)

Dúo formado por las leyendas del rock sinfónico español Teddy Bautista (no empecemos, ¿vale? Estoy hablando de su faceta artística) y Pepe Robles (ex-líder de los Módulos). El resultado de semejante unión, difícilmente pudiera estar más lejos de las previsiones de cualquier amante del rock progresivo.

La dupla apenas logró editar este LP, que no vendió nada pese a su contenido netamente comercial. Personalmente, me gusta, pero es uno de esos discos "so bad it's good" (tan pero tan malo que acaba por gustar). La portada es digna de cualquier recopilata de "Spanish Bizarro". Ah, a propósito, a Teddy Bautista parece que le empezó a interesar más la pasta que la música ya por aquel entonces: en el extremo inferior derecho de la funda del LP pone "Queremos dar las gracias a Arturo, Mariano... y en general para todo el que se compre este disco, que para eso lo hemos hecho". Lulz.

Duo formed by spanish symphonic prog legends Teddy Bautista (ex-Canarios and mastermind behind the band's classic "Ciclos") and Pepe Robles (ex-leader of Módulos). The result of such union could hardly be more divorced from the forecast of any progressive rock lover.

The couple only managed to release this sole LP, which sold very poorly in spite of its heavily commercial content. Personally, I like it, but it's one of those so bad it's good albums. The cover wouldn't be out of place on any "Spanish Bizarro" compilation. Oh, by the way, Teddy Bautista is nowadays the president of a company called SGAE (the spanish RIAA, so to speak); it seems he began to care more about money than music already when this crap came out... in the lower right corner of the LP sheet you can read (in spanish) "We would like to thank Arturo, Mariano... and everyone who bought this album, since that's the reason why we've made it". Lulz.

Este disco ya ha sido posteado, aunque se trataba de un rip de 160 kbps. En esta ocasión se ofrece una copia clónica en formato FLAC, y otra en MP3 a 320 kbps.

Koniec fue una oscura banda experimental barcelonesa formada por tres figuras bien conocidas de la escena vanguardista catalana: Oriol Perucho (percusión), Xavier Maristany (saxo alto y barítono) y Joan Saura (teclados). La formación la completaba el menos conocido Josep Palomas al bajo.

Tras su primer y rarísimo disco, "Senza Parole", Perucho deja el grupo y es reemplazado por otra conocida figura de la escena experimental catalana, Quico Samsó. Es esta formación la que grabó el segundo LP, "Ad Livingstone", con el el ensamble del Taller De Músics. Este "Silenci En Bla" fue la última referencia del grupo, ya que la muerte del bajista Josep Palomas truncó su trayectoria.

Koniec was an obscure experimental band from barcelona formed by three well known figures of the catalan avant gard scene: Oriol Perucho (percussion), Xavier Maristany (alto sax and baritone) and Joan Saura (keyboards). The line-up was completed by the less known Josep Palomas on bass.

After their first and very rare album, "Senza Parole", Perucho quits and is replaced by another well known figure of the catalan avant scene, Quico Samsó. This is the line-up that recorded the second album, "Ad Livingstone", with the Ensemble del Taller De Músics. This one, "Silenci En Bla", was the band's last offering, since the demise of Josep Palomas put an end to their career.

Recopilatorio de quince temas, de los cuales tres son nuevos. Los demás han sido retocados. Descripción a cargo del propio artista:

"El álbum es fruto de la confluencia de dos iniciativas distintas: Por un lado, Juanjo Abenza me propuso hace ya un tiempo componer unas pequeñas cuñas para usarlas en la cabecera de los videocast que estaban preparando en el programa de radio "El Último Peldaño". Preparé unas cuñas de 20 segundos, las cuales estaban pidiendo a gritos ser más largas. De modo que usando alguna de esas ideas preparé un par de temas nuevos. Por otro lado, en "El Último Peldaño" se han estado usando temas míos en el último año, lo que me provocaba sensaciones encontradas. Es un placer que lo hagan, pero muchos de esos temas estaban tomados de los primeros álbumes y sentía que ni la grabación ni la interpretación eran lo bastante buenas. Así que decidí recopilar los temas que se han estado usando (En este sentido no es una recopilación de mis favoritas, sino una selección realizada por Joaquín Abenza, conductor del programa) y arreglarlos, regrabándolos si era necesario. Puedo aseguraros que muchos de los temas han cambiado tanto que para mí son temas nuevos. El resultado son 15 temas, tres de los cuales son totalmente nuevos, y el resto han sufrido una transformación más que importante. He contado, además, con la colaboración de dos grandes músicos y amigos que han hecho del proyecto algo muy especial."

"This album is the product of the confluence of two different initiatives:

In one hand, Juanjo Abenza asked me composing brief themes to be used in the heading of the videocast he was working on for the radio show "El Último Peldaño". I delivered a couple of 20-second themes, which I thought were good enough to be longer. So, working on those original snippets I came up with two new tracks.

In the other hand, in the "El Último Peldaño" show my music has been extensively used for the last year, which provoked mixed feelings in myself. It's a real pleasure that they do so, but many of those themes were taken from my earliest albums, and I felt that neither the recording nor the performance were good enough. So I decided to compile all those tracks (In that sense it's not a compilation of my own favourites, but a selection made by Joaquín Abenza, show's conductor) and arrange them, recording them again when neccesary. I can assure many of the themes changed so much they are brand new to me.

The result is 15 tracks, three of them totally new, and the rest deeply transformed. I had the support of two big musicians and friends who made something very special of this project."

Este disco ya ha sido posteado, aunque se trataba de un rip de 160 kbps. En esta ocasión se ofrece una copia clónica en formato FLAC, y otra en MP3 a 320 kbps. He subido, también, un segundo rip (a 320 kbps), que no es mío, sino que me lo bajé de un P2P. Ambos suenan bien; sucede que, al ser un LP, el sonido varía de un giradiscos a otro ya que no todos van a exactamente la misma velocidad.

Oscurísima banda alicantina (Valencia) de jazz/fusión. Este, su único e inencontrable LP, ha cosechado buenas críticas en internet. Podéis encontrar una detallada biografía de la banda en su MySpace (es demasiado larga como para copiarla aquí).

Militó en los míticos Música Dispersa, es amigo de Pau Riba, e hizo sus pinitos en diferentes bandas progresivas catalanas a lo largo de los años.

Entre 1975 y 1977, Sisa editó una trilogía de discos generalmente considerados lo mejor de su carrera: "Qualsevol Nit Pot Sortir El Sol" (1975), "Galeta Galàctica" (1976) y el doble y ambicioso "La Catedral" (1977). Este último en concreto, es el más experimental de los tres, con varias canciones cuyo minutaje ronda los nueve minutos.

Tras hacer la banda sonora del musical "Antaviana", en 1978, Sisa regresó con este "La Màgia Del Estudiant", un LP menos recordado, menos experimental, y menos ambicioso, que marcó el final de su etapa dorada.

Even though Sisa never did progressive rock strictly speaking, he's a household name of the catalan music scene of the last forty years. He played in the legendary, unlabelable band Música Dispersa, he's friends with Pau Riba, and collaborated with different catalan progressive bands throughout his career.

Between 1975 and 1977, Sisa released a trilogy of albums that is generally considered the best of his output: "Qualsevol Nit Pot Sortir El Sol" (1975), "Galeta Galàctica" (1976) and the ambitious double LP "La Catedral" (1977). The latter is the most experimental of them all, with many songs with a length of around nine minutes.

After composing the soundtrack in 1978 for a musical called "Antaviana", Sisa returned with "La Màgia Del Estudiant", a less celebrated, less experimental and less ambitious LP, which marked the end of his golden era.

"Brenga Astur publicó su segundo disco, en este caso con la compañía discográfica FONOMUSIC (Madrid) en 1999, y lleva por título "Cancios del Gochu Xabaz". En esta obra se ofrece una colección de canciones tradicionales arregladas por el grupo, así como composición de otras nuevas. En España, Mägo De Oz son bien conocidos por su sentido del humor estúpido, y la mayoría de los melómanos locales piensan que son una mierda de banda, pero están entre las más vendedoras del país.

Tras publicar entre 1975 y 1979 una trilogía artísticamente difícil de superar ("El Patio" (1975), "Hijos Del Agobio" (1977) y "Sombra Y Luz" (1979)), Triana rompe con su tradición de sacar un disco cada dos años. Su tercera referencia no fue solo artísticamente difícil de superar, sino también comercialmente: se llegaron a vender 300.000 copias solo en España (un país que por entonces no llegaba a los cuarenta millones de habitantes).

La calidad musical se resiente visiblemente con este cambio (sólo conozco a una persona que siente el mismo apego por los tres primeros LP's, que por los tres últimos, y si lee esto sabrá a quién me refiero... lulz). "Un Encuentro", el sucesor de "Sombra Y Luz", supone un punto de inflexión clave en la trayectoria del grupo: personalmente, creo que es el "...And Then There Were Three" de Triana, por un par de paralelismos que no sé si todo el mundo ha logrado trazar: por un lado, si bien el sonido del grupo no cambia drásticamente, sí lo hace el formato. Vamos, que cualquier tema de "Un Encuentro" podría haberse hecho hueco en "Sombra Y Luz", y nadie se rasgaría las vestiduras. Las texturas son más o menos las mismas; la diferencia radica en la duración de las canciones. Los despliegues instrumentales brillan por su ausencia.

Eso por un lado. Por el otro, tanto este LP como el "...And Then There Were Three" incluyen, por vez primera, una balada romántica ("Tu Frialdad" en el caso de Triana, y "Follow You, Follow Me" en el caso de Genesis) que supuso el despegue comercial de ambos grupos. Bueno, los Triana ya se habían hinchado a vender LP's, pero con el tema que abre este disco, "Tu Frialdad", consiguieron su primer y único número uno en las listas de éxitos. Parece que a ellos, o a la discográfica, les sentó muy bien el éxito comercial, y se les fue la pelota en el siguiente LP. Que, por cierto, supuso, probablemente, el pwned más grande en la historia del rock andaluz.

After releasing an artistically hard to exceed trilogy between 1975 and 1979 ("El Patio" (1975), "Hijos Del Agobio" (1977) and "Sombra Y Luz" (1979)), Triana broke the tradition of releasing an album every two years. Their third LP was not only artistically hard to exceed, but also commercially: 300.000 copies of it were sold in Spain only (a country that had a population of less than forty million people at the time).

The musical quality clearly suffered due to this change (I know only one person who likes the first three LP's as much as the last ones). "Un Encuentro", the follow up to "Sombra Y Luz", was a turning point in the band's career: personally, I consider this one as Triana's "...And Then There Were Three", for a cuple of parallels that I've drawn and that I'm not sure if someone else did: on one hand, even though the band's overall sound doesn't change drastically, the format certainly does. Come on, any tune from "Un Encuentro" could have fit in "Sombra Y Luz", and nobody would have complained about it. The textures are pretty much the same; the difference lies in the length of the songs. The instrumental displays are conspicous by their absence.

On the other hand, both this LP and "...And Then There Were Three" feature, for the very first time, a romantic ballad ("Tu Frialdad" in the case of Triana, and "Follow You, Follow Me" in the case of Genesis) that brought both bands mainstream success. Well, Triana had sold one hell of albums at the time, but this album's opener, "Tu Frialdad", gave them their first and only number one hit in the spanish charts. It seems the band, or their label, enjoyed the success too much, and lost their mind on the next LP; an LP that, by the way, involved andalusian rock's biggest pwned ever.

Si al disco anterior lo comparaba con el "...And Then There Were Three" de Genesis, éste bien podría ser el "Hot Space" de Triana. Por tres razones: primero, que tanto Queen como los andaluces consiguieron un número uno en 1980, lo que los condujo a comercializar su sonido de manera procaz poco después; segundo, que pese a este fallido intento de conquistar las listas de éxitos, ninguno de los dos vendió una mierda (al menos, para lo que se esperaba). Y, tercero, la portada. Ambas retratan una parodia de lo que los grupos fueron alguna vez.

Este LP se compone de apenas siete temas, de los cuales, tres son verdaderamente bochornosos: "Es Algo Tan Maravilloso", "Una Noche De Amor Desesperada" y "Corre". Este último, sin duda es el que se lleva el gato al agua: se trata de un adefesio pseudo discotequero "so bad it's good" ("tan malo que es bueno"... es una expresión en inglés que se refiere a algo que es tan pero tan malo, que termina por gustar... léase Dr. No o Rivendel) cuyo video hace llorar al espíritu de Jesús De La Rosa. If I compared the band's previous album to Genesis' "...And Then There Were Three", this one could easily be Triana's "Hot Space". My reasons are three: first, both Queen and Triana got a number one hit in 1980, which led them to grossly commercialize their sound shortly after; second, in spite of this failed attempt at hitting the big time for once and all, none of them sold a fuck (at least, compared to what they expected to sell). And third, well, the cover. Both depict a parody of what those acts once were.

This LP consists in barely seven tracks, out of which three are truly embarrassing: "Es Algo Tan Maravilloso", "Una Noche De Amor Desesperada" and "Corre". The latter is definitely the most disgusting of them all: it's a so bad it's good faux-disco creature whose video makes the spirit of Jesús De La Rosa cry. See it here. (At your own risk)

Casi todo el mundo infravalora este disco, y lo mete en la misma bolsa que el anterior: "esos dos últimos discos de Triana que no valen ná". "...Llegó El Día" se compone de siete temas, de los cuales tres fueron compuestos por Jesús De La Rosa, autor de casi todo el repertorio del grupo. Los otros cuatro (algo menos de la mitad del disco) corresponden a Eduardo Rodríguez Rodway (bajo y guitarra) y Juan José "Tele" Palacios (batería y percusión).

Si tenemos en cuenta, única y estrictamente, los temas de Jesús, este disco bien podría ser el retorno del grupo, una despedida más que digna; ahora, si contamos con los temas de los otros dos, pues sí, es un disco regular. En cualquier caso, cualquiera que haya escuchado la suite de trece minutos que da nombre a este disco, y aún así considere que "no vale ná", no es un ignorante, un insensible, o un pasota: es un hijo de puta.

En 1983, las tensiones dentro del grupo eran notables; Jesús planeaba dejarlo para dedicarse a una carrera en solitario, el rock andaluz estaba muerto y enterrado y, sobre su cadáver aún tibio, bailaba la movida madrileña, "Tele" se encapricahaba en que incluyeran sus temas pedorros; leí que una vez Eduardo le pidió a Jesús que cantara "Perdido Por Las Calles", a lo que le replicó: "¿Quieres que se cante? Pues cántala tú".

Es un enigma qué hubiera sido del grupo de no haber muerto Jesús el mismo año que salió este LP; personalmente, me parece que Triana se despidió (aunque fuera accidentalmente) con un disco digno, una bocanada de esperanza tras el trágico disco anterior. Y, quien no se estremezca con la suite que da nombre a este disco, no es bien recibido en este blog.

This is a generally underrated album, and most people seem to put it in the same bag as the previous one: "those two last Triana albums that suck". "...Llegó El Día" consists in seven songs; three of them were written by Jesús De La Rosa, author of most of the band's repertoire. The remaining four (a little less than half the album) were penned by Eduardo Rodríguez Rodway (bass and guitar) and Juan José "Tele" Palacios (drums and percussion).

If we only and strictly consider Jesús' tracks, this album could easily be a return to form by the band, a noteworthy swan song; but if we consider all the tracks, it is, indeed, a so-so album. In any case, anyone who's heard the thirteen minute title track and still thinks this album "sucks", is a faggot retard who likes Transatlantic.

By 1983, the tensions within the band were notorious; Jesús wanted to quit to pursue a solo career, andalusian rock was dead and buried while the "movida madrileña" (Madrid wave) monopolized the media attention, "Tele" whimsey wanted his terrible songs to be included in the albums; once I read that Eduardo asked Jesús to sing "Perdido Por Las Calles", to which he replied: "You want that one to be sung? Then sing it yourself".

It is an enigma what would have become of the band if Jesús hadn't died the year this album came out; personally, I think Triana called it a day (albeit accidentally) with an album that lived up to their legend, a mouthful of hope after the tragic previous album.

Ambos suenan más "light", con temas más cortos y "uptempo", pero aún así con muchos temas instrumentales y progresivos.

Its follow up, two years later, was this album, "L'Atlàntida". Both have a "lighter" sound, with shorter and more uptempo songs, but still with many instrumental tracks and prog elements.

Este disco ya ha sido posteado, aunque se trataba de un rip de 160 kbps. En esta ocasión se ofrece una copia clónica en formato FLAC, y otra en MP3 a 320 kbps.

El único LP editado por este grupo está impregnado de un halo de leyenda. Su sonido indescriptible, sumado a la escasa repercusión que tuvo al momento de su edición (vendió menos de 400 copias) lo han convertido en una oscurísima obra de culto, incluso más allá de la piel del toro.

La formación es también destacable: Sisa (ex-Miniatura) en voz, guitarra, swannie y percusión, Tapi (ex-baterista de Tapiman y Máquina!, entre otros) a la batería, Albert Batiste (ex-Miniatura, ex-Máquina! y ex-Ia & Batiste) en bajo, harmónica, órgano, batería y voz, una tal Selene a la voz, piano, bongos y flauta, y el madrileño Cachas (ex-Trágala, banda en la que militó Hilario Camacho) en mandolina, guitarra, flauta y voz. La llamada a filas (servicio militar obligatorio) de este último desembocó en la disolución de la banda. Una vez completada la mili, se mudó a Menorca, donde se dedicó a escribir y vivió hasta su muerte, en 2004.

Si bien es harto difícil encasillar el sonido de Música Dispersa, puedo decir que el primer LP de Sisa tiene bastantes ecos de su anterior banda. Aparte de esto, como siempre digo, es un disco que hay que "escuchar para creer".

The only LP by this one shot band is impregnated by a halo of legend. Its inclassicable sound as well as its rather inexistant repercussion (it sold less than 400 copies) have turned it into a very obscure cult album. Even beyond spanish frontiers.

The line-up is also remarkable: Sisa (ex-Miniatura) on voice, guitar, swannie and percussion, Tapi (ex-drummer in Tapiman and Máquina!, among others) on drums, Albert Batiste (ex-Miniatura, ex-Máquina! and ex-Ia & Batiste) on bass, harmonica, organ, drums and voice, a Ms. Selene on voice, piano, bongos and flute, and Madrid-born singer Cachas (ex-Trágala, an act where Hilario Camacho played in) on mandolin, guitar, flute and voice. The latter was called to the then-convulsory military service, which led to the breakup of the band. Once he finished, he moved to Menorca, where he spent his time writing until his demise in 2004.

Even though Música Dispersa's sound is unlabelable, I can certainly say that echoes of this band can be heard on Sisa's first LP. Apart from that, as I sometimes say, it is a "listen to believe" album.

Este es, creo, el disco de ÑU que cuenta con más ediciones. Originalmente vio la luz en 1990 como "Dos Años De Destierro". Una reedición remasterizada y bajo el nombre "La Espada" salió unos años después. Según comentan en este foro, a mediados de los 90, Carlos Molina (líder de ÑU) se compró una espada de segunda mano a través de eGay, y se obsesionó tanto con la misma que decidió remasterizar y reeditar Dos Años De Destierro bajo el nombre de "La Espada"... para rematar, el tour del '98 se llamó "La Espada Tour 98". En el foro al que hago referencia también se puede ver una foto de Molina con su fantástico arma de combate.

Frikadas aparte, la verdad es que la edición bajo el nombre "La Espada" suena mucho mejor que la original. He subido las dos por si a alguien le interesa.

This is, I think, the ÑU album that has been reissued the most. It originally saw the light of day in 1990 as "Dos Años De Destierro" (no literal translation, but it would be something like "Two Years Of Exile" - 'forced exile' would be more accurate, since exile in spanish is exilio). The album was remastered and reissued a few years later as "La Espada" ("The Sword"). According to this forum, Carlos Molina (ÑU's leader) bought a second hand sword through eGay in the mid 90's, and became so obsessed with it that he decided to remaster and re-release "Dos Años De Destierro" as "La Espada".... to crown it all, the '98 tour was called "La Espada Tour 98". There is a picture of Carlos with his fantastic combat weapon in the forum I mentioned before.

Weirdness aside, the truth is that the edition under the name of "La Espada" sound so much better than the original. I've uploaded both, just in case someone's interested.

I was at the time much influenced by the catalan folk music of traditional roots, as well as The Incredible String Band. It was recorded in the island with a battery-fed portable system (a Nagra, which was employed then, and still is, for cinema sound), taking the advantage of the natural resonance of the hole, the murmur of the bees, etc.. The CD edition was released in 1993, by PDI."

"Veneno" fue una banda de corta trayectoria formada por tres figuras legendarias del flamenco: Kiko Veneno (aka José María López Sanfeliu) y los hermanos Rafael y Raimundo Amador. Este, su álbum debut, no produjo demasiado revuelo cuando salió, pero está considerado uno de los mejores discos en la historia de la música popular española. Si bien su contenido es, en esencia, flamenco, las influencias del rock progresivo de la época son evidentes. El LP contiene siete canciones, dos de las cuales duran 8:43 y 6:56, y transcurren a través de variadas texturas y pasajes instrumentales, con mayor o menor intensidad... y es que las texturas de este disco son, probablemente, junto a las voces, lo que lo hacen tan especial y único. Las voces tienen poco y nada tienen que ver con el rock andaluz de la época, con ese flamenco sufrido y melancólico, no; el cante de Kiko Veneno es mucho más desenfadado, macarra y terriblemente original.

Sobre este histórico LP, Kiko Veneno expresó: "es el trabajo del que estoy más orgulloso, por su frescura, por su fuerza, ¡lo mejor de cuanto he hecho nunca!".

Respecto a la portada, la primera versión fue censurada, ya que lo que aparecía en ella era un trozo de hachís envuelto en papel metálico (ver segunda foto, arriba). "Hachís" es el nombre que se le da en España a una pasta de color marrón, también llamada "costo", que se usa para hacer porros. Cambia de nombre según cada país.

Lamentablemente, la trayectoria del grupo se vio truncada por la escasa repercusión del disco. Tras su disolución, los hermanos Amador formaron "Pata Negra", mítica formación flamenca que editó seis LP's entre 1981 y 1996. A principios de los 90, Raimundo Amador se unió al mítico Manglis -ex-Guadalquivir, Manteca, músico de sesión de Triana y actualmente Manglis Compás Machine- para formar "Arrajatabla", un proyecto de corta vida que dejó un sólo disco como testimonio. Por último, Kiko Veneno siguió adelante como solista. Su disco más aclamado es "Echate Un Cantecito" (1992). Actualmente es una figura de culto dentro de la escena musical española.

"Veneno" was a short lived band formed by three legendary figures of flamingo: Kiko Veneno (aka José María López Sanfeliu) and the brothers Rafael and Raimundo Amador. This, their debut album, did not take the world by storm upon its release, but it is considered one the best spanish albums ever. Even though its content is, essentially, flamingo, the prog rock influences of its time are evident. The LP has seven songs, two of which clock at 8:43 and 6:56, and they explore varied textures and instrumental passages, with great deal of intensity... in fact, it is the textures what, among with the vocals, what make this album so special and unique. The vocals have little to do with the average andalusian rock of the era, full of dramatism and melancholy; Kiko's singing is way more carefree, tacky and terribly unique.

According to the artist, "'Veneno' is the album that I'm proud the most of, due to its freshness, its energy, the best thing I've ever done!"

Regarding the cover, the first version was censored, since it depicted a piece of hash wrapped in tinfoil (see second picture above); I don't know how you call it in your country, but it's a hard paste employed to make joints.

Unfortunately, the band's career came to an end due to the lack of popularity of the album. After their breakup, the Amador brothers formed "Pata Negra", a legendary flamingo act that released six LP's between 1981 and 1996. In the early 90's, Raimundo Amador teamed up with spanish prog legend Manglis -ex-Guadalquivir, Manteca, Triana session player and currently in Manglis Compás Machine- and formed "Arrajatabla", a one shot short lived project. On the other hand, Kiko Veneno pursued a solo career. His most acclaimed album is "Echate Un Cantecito" (1992). He's currently a cult figure in the spanish music scene.

It has an ensemble that consists in various members, being some of them Joan Sanmartí, Agustí Fernández and Quicu Samsó, among others. In "Els Quatre Camins" the ensemble performs four unreleased compositions penned by artists related to the school: "Tríptic" by Enric Palomar, "Insistir Em Erros" by Joan Saura, "Quan Es Faci Fosc" by Sergi Vergés and "El Camí De Roma" by Xavier Maristany. The average length of each is around fifteen minutes long.

La Romántica Banda Local es una banda criminalmente ignorada por los aficionados al rock progresivo español: su sonido es netamente sinfónico y complejo, aunque, en términos de popularidad, no juegan en la liga de clásicos como Azahar, Bloque o Goma. Esta atrocidad quizá se pueda achacar al hecho de que ninguna de sus composiciones supere los cinco minutos - digamos que practicaban un rock progresivo en formato "Queen". Pero mucho más sinfónico.

Formados a mediados de los 70 (por su filas pasó el ex-bajista de Tilburi, Nano Domínguez), el grupo no encajó en la escena musical de entonces por la coyuntura de la época: fueron rechazados por su apariencia hippie, sus performances teatrales, y tanto la crítica como diferentes sectores de la escena musical española de los 70 (rock urbano, rock progresivo, new wave) les dio la espalda. Pese a todo, su estupendo primer LP, producido por José Miguel Yanes (ex-Aguaviva), llegó a vender la nada despreciable cantidad de 20.000 ejemplares.

En 1979 la banda graba este simple de cuatro temas, "Historias De Papá Y Mamá", que sirve de banda sonora para la película "Tú Estás Loco, Briones", y, en 1980, su segundo y último LP, "Membrillo", que originalmente iba a ser doble y conceptual pero que, por orden de CFE (Compañía Fonográfica Española, su sello discográfico), se quedó en un sólo LP. Aparentemente, a CFE no le hizo ninguna gracia la idea de editar un LP doble tan "artsy" y sin simples radiables; la banda tuvo que escribir el clásico "Los Borrachos Somos Gente Inquebrantable" a último momento, a pedido del sello.

Olvidados por años, gracias a internet y esta reedición del fantástico sello Rama Lama, La Romántica Banda Local recuperó algo del prestigio que se le debe.

La Romántica Banda Local (The Romantic Local Band) is a criminally ignored band by spanish progressive rock aficionados: their sound is purely symphonic and complex, albeit they don't play in the same league -in terms of popularity and recognition- of classics such as Azahar, Bloque or Goma. This atrocity may be related to the fact that none of their songs last more than five minutes - to put it somehow, they play progressive rock "ala Queen". But way more symphonic.

Formed in the mid 70's (ex-Tilburi bass player Nano Domínguez, played with them), the band didn't fit in the musical scene back then due to the juncture of its time: they were rejected for their hippie aesthetic, their theatrical performances, and both critics and different music scenes (urban rock, progressive rock, new wave) alike turned their back on them. In spite of this, the band managed to sell the remarkable numer of 20.000 copies of their fantastic first album, which was produced by ex-Aguaviva alumni José Miguel Yanes.

In 1979 the band released this four track single "Historias De Papá Y Mamá" as the soundtrack for a movie called "Tú Estás Loco, Briones" ("You Are Crazy, Briones") and, in 1980, their second and last album, "Membrillo", which came out in an edited shape. It was meant to be a double conceptual LP, but CFE (Compañía Fonográfica Española, their label at the time) requested it to be abridged. Apparently, the idea of releasing such an "artsy" and hit-less double LP didn't appeal CFE at all; the band was requested to write their classic "Los Borrachos Somos Gente Inquebrantable" ("We The Drunks Are Unshakable People", I think that's the closest translation) at the last minute. Forgotten for years, thanks to the internet and this reissue by the fantastic Rama Lama label, La Romántica Banda Local retrieved some of the recognition they were owed.

Por su parte, Diego Yturriaga (teclados y bajo), Rubén Moreno (batería) y Jordi Sancho (teclados y bajo) se juntaron con el ex-bajista escocés de Los Planetas Kieran Stephen y formaron Fantasy Bar. Abel Fernández también sacó un disco como "El Hijo" llamado "Las Otras Vidas", junto a Raül Fernández (aka Refree) y un tal Xavi Molero.

Subgénero: Sinfónico, folk. Con flauta. Letras en euskera (idioma hablado en Vascongadas/País Vasco, provincia española de la cual el grupo era oriundo. No se parece en absoluto al castellano). Clásico.

Comentarios:

Este disco ya ha sido posteado, aunque se trataba de un rip de 160 kbps. En esta ocasión se ofrece una copia clónica en formato APE, y otra en MP3 a 320 kbps.

Debut de este clásico atemporal no sólo del rock progresivo y sinfónico vasco, sino del español en general. Lamentablemente, Itoiz no consiguió demasiado reconocimiento fuera de Euskadi, pero fueron, probablemente, una de las primeras bandas importantes por esas latitudes.

Su discografía se compone de seis LP's de estudio (uno de ellos, en realidad, es un EP de seis temas que no llega a la media hora), y uno en vivo. Sólo la trilogía inicial ((Sin nombre)/Ezekiel/Alkolea) son progresivos, sobre todo los dos primeros. De Musikaz Blai en adelante se adentraron en un pop espantoso.

This album has already been posted before, but it was at 160 kbps rip. This time, a lossless rip (in APE format) as well as a 320 kbps rip have been uploaded.

Debut album by this timelss classic not only of the vasque prog and sympho scene, but of the whole spanish scene. Unfortunately, Itoiz did not receive much recognition the beyond the frontiers of the vasque region (northern Spain), but they were, probably, one of the first big bands there.

Their discography consists of six studio LP's (one of them is actually a six track EP that clocks at less than thirty minutes), plus a live one. Only the initial trilogy ((Untitled)/Ezekiel/Alkolea) are prog, especially the first two. They turned terribly poppy from Musikaz Blai onwards.

Este disco ya ha sido posteado, aunque se trataba de un rip de 160 kbps. En esta ocasión se ofrece una copia clónica en formato FLAC, y otra en MP3 a 320 kbps.

Histórica colaboración entre la banda de rock alternativo Lagartija Nick y el cantaor flamenco Enrique Morente, en la cual recita poesías de Federico García Lorca, así como también interpreta canciones -muy reelaboradas- de Leonard Cohen, junto con otros artistas (aunque siempre con música de Lagartija Nick). El resultado es un disco considerado un clásico de culto dentro de la escena musical española, al nivel de "Una Semana En El Motor De Un Autobús" de Los Planetas o "Un Soplo En El Corazón" de Family.

Describir el contenido de este disco es una tarea francamente diffícil, ya que es un universo en sí mismo. Como 713avo Amor o Música Dispersa, es una obra tan personal y única que las etiquetas se quedan cortas.

Legendary collaboration between alternative rock band Lagartija Nick and flamingo singer Enrique Morente, where he recites poems by Federico García Lorca as well as heavily rearranged Leonard Cohen songs, with the help of other artists (albeit always with music by Lagartija Nick). The result is a record that is widely considered a cult classic of the spanish music scene, in the same league as "Una Semana En El Motor De Un Autobús" by Los Planetas or "Un Soplo En El Corazón" by Family.

To describe the content of this album is, frankly, a hard task, since it is a universe itself. Like 713avo Amor or Música Dispersa, this is such a personal and unique work, that labels fall short.
